MAMAH is supporting mealworm production in schools in Kyaka II Refugee settlement and the host community to fortify children’s meals with insect protein. The first phase from 2020 was to introduce the concept of insect farms in schools to sensitize school / community stakeholders on the issues of malnutrition among our children and the possibility of improving the situation through insect protein.
Small insect rearing kits were established in schools to enable skills training, as well as changing attitudes and perceptions. After achieving this, we’re now expanding the production capacity in the schools and the community. The structure will be able to produce 2.5 tons of mealworm per month.
