MAMAH has established partnership with the Danish non-profit Impact Designs, the Danish Refugee Council, a Ugandan based NGO Yiya solutions and her host partner Bobo Eco Farm to rear the yellow mealworm (Tenebrio Molitor) for the fortification of foods in schools as well as refugee settlements and their host communities in Western Uganda.
The meal worm is packed with micronutrient values and it’s typically a good source of minerals which are crucial for growth. It serves as an important component of the diet in many parts in central Africa. When added to the maize-based porridge, the yellow meal worm has the potential to provide the much needed nutritious meal for school going children that are faced with insufficient or lack of food for the most part of the day. MAMAH will be scaling this out to other schools.
